The new Toyota Rumion 2022 is available in Africa. A minivan based on the Suzuki Ertiga that is produced and sold in India, from which it takes elements of its exterior aesthetics, as well as its equipment and mechanics. This vehicle is part of the list of models that the two Japanese manufacturers share to adapt them to the needs of each of the brands and the markets where they are projected to be marketed.

The Toyota Rumion 2022 is based on the concept of the Ertiga, which is sold in other African countries in addition to India. The new MPV is really compact with a length of just 4.4 meters and a wheelbase of 2.74 meters. Its design has a simple aesthetic with a combination of straight and rounded lines. The hood is relatively short and the appearance of its front includes a chromed slatted grille along with a pair of elongated headlamps on each side.

Cab and engine

Inside there are also elements in common such as the layout of the front panel that features a seven-inch central touch screen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In the higher versions it includes artificial wood inserts. The interior space accommodates three rows of seats for up to seven passengers, making it a family vehicle by nature.

The difference between the Ertiga lies in the badges both inside and outside the vehicle, as well as in the grille and 15-inch alloy wheels. Its hood is short, so it offers a large internal space to accommodate up to three rows of seats with seven occupants, although the basic version comes for five passengers or two rows of seats.

The powertrain of the new Rumion consists of a 1.5-liter engine with 105 hp and 140 Nm of torque. The gearbox can be a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. It is based on the Heartect platform. The new Toyota Rumion 2022 will be sold from 245,600 South African Rand (16,615 USD) for the basic version and from 317,200 Rand (21,460 USD) for the variant with automatic transmission.
